For our professionals, that means keeping our clients at the center of everything we do while also maintaining a collegial and collaborative environment in which everyone can contribute, develop relationships and further build their business.  We have an immediate opportunity for a Portfolio Analyst in our Private Wealth Management business.  The position is based in our New York office.

 

The Portfolio Analyst will work closely with the Asset Manager on client matters such as analyzing client’s current portfolio and making asset allocation recommendations.  The Portfolio Analyst will act as a liaison between CIO/Asset Managers and associates in regards to overall asset allocation and market updates and perform due diligence on specific investment choices and vendors.  One of the main purposes of this role is to give Asset Managers valuable analysis and insights into prospects and existing client portfolios in order to assist in pitches reviews.  The analyst therefore plays a valuable role in indirectly gathering assets and maintaining healthy client relationships.  They provide value to the client through their work in establishing appropriate asset allocations and identifying weaknesses and or strengths in their investment portfolios (whether they are invested with us or not).

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing:

  • Analyzes performance, style, and risk measures for investment portfolios.
  • Reviews client's account(s) and prepares portfolio reviews at the request of the Relationship Managers and Asset Managers.
  • Recommends underlying mutual fund selections within managed accounts, variable annuities and clients’ 401(k) portfolios.
  • Evaluates Financial Planning client’s outside accounts to make proper asset allocation recommendations.
  • Uses software tools to analyze clients’ outside accounts and current portfolio for proper allocation recommendations.  Software tools include eMoney, Excel, Morningstar Advisor, and PowerPoint.
  • Create “portfolio summaries” for planning clients that bullet point the recommendations and include a commentary on the current and recommend allocation.
  • Performs due diligence on portfolio managers available within our broker/dealer to decide which will have the best performance and which will best fit the client’s needs.
  • Keeps abreast of current market conditions and changes through vendor conference calls and market outlooks.
  • Provides analysis of new and existing vendors and reviews possible software and technology enhancements.
  • Assists in forming Investment Committee policy and running Investment Committee meetings.
  • Assists CIO and PWM Director on various projects.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

The successful candidate has bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of portfolio analyst experience. This individual will have knowledge of various investment securities, their characteristics, and behavior in various market environments. Preferably, experience with cash flow modeling, scenario analysis and Monte Carlo analysis as well. This individual must be able to interpret investment performance and risk reporting from various sources, with knowledge of the characteristics of various investment account structures and products (e.g. IRA, 401k, mutual fund wraps vs. self-directed). The ideal candidate must also be proficient in excel and have an understanding of portfolio management and modern portfolio theory. Level I CFA a plus.
